FEATURED NEW ARRIVAL: THE CREATOR HAS A MASTER PLAN

The Creator Has A Master Plan

If Trane is the Father then Pharoah Sanders is the Son. ‘The Creator Has A Master Plan’ is a Skoolwerk Apparel tee inspired by tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders who emerged from John Coltrane’s groups in the mid 60s. Sanders is an important figure in the development of spiritual and free jazz. Sanders is best known for ‘The Creator Has A Master Plan,’ a spiritual jazz epic with a very much needed message of peace and happiness. The 32-minute epic features vocalist Leon Thomas and pianist Lonnie Liston Smith and was released on the Impulse records label in 1969. Our Pharoah Sanders inspired tee is designed using the Impulse records signature colors.

The creator has a master plan,
peace and happiness for every man.
The creator has a working plan,
peace and happiness for every man.
The creator makes but one demand,
happiness through all the land.

Blue Note – A Story Of Modern Jazz Documentary [Full Length]

Image

Blue Note – A Story Of Modern Jazz is one of my favorite documentaries. I remember getting this documentary on VHS as part of a “free with purchase” promotion at Borders Books & Music.  It was circa 1997 and when I had purchased a Blue Note CD the VHS was a freebie. I was mainly after Horace Silver’s Song For My Father on CD. At the time of purchase I had no idea that I was taking home what turned out to be this priceless documentary about the history of one of the greatest jazz record labels in the world, Blue Note Records.

Everything about this documentary fascinated me.  I fell more and more in love with the music, the artists, the cover art and the history of the label every time I watched it. The archival footage is just amazing.  Another piece to the fascinating Blue Note story is the Blue Note cover art.  The cover art is just as famous as the music and it has it’s own history.  This wonderful documentary has since been released on DVD and I have yet to replace my trusty dusty VHS even though it’s worth every penny and should be added to any serious jazz documentary collection.  But in the meantime we can all enjoy this full length youtube stream.

New Arrival – Trane: A Love Supreme Tee

TraneLoveSupreme

Liner Notes:

A Love Supreme What can we say that hasn’t already been said about the legecy, music and impact of John Coltrane. This shirt is a simple token of respect and appreciation for a man who is to this day one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in jazz history. “Trane” as he is affectionately called, created and recorded his most famous record, A Love Supreme (Impulse! Records) in 1965. The four-part suite is an ode to his faith in and love for God. The fourth movement of A Love Supreme, “Psalm”, is, in fact, a musical setting for an original poem to God written by Coltrane, and printed in the album’s liner notes.
